FORMAL & INFORMAL  TRAINING & ASSESSMENT:

This course is a competency – based training program that allows students to complete both the formal and informal requirements of the licence all at MAJOR’s simulated worksites. Students are required to be trained to a level suitable to achieve all elements necessary of the assessment instrument. The course includes Training, Log Book, Training Plan, Assessment, Manual and Workplace Health & Safety Ticket.

FORMAL TRAINING ONLY COURSE:

This course is designed for those students whom wish to complete the mandatory informal training on the job or at their current employment. Employer’s must agree to this and fill in all relevant areas of student’s record book (logbook). Students are required to complete a competency based 2-4 days formal training course that covers areas such as OHS legislative requirements, video presentations and verbal/practical demonstration and instruction of all elements from the training/assessment instrument. This also includes the written exam on completion of formal training.

ASSESSMENT ONLY:

You must be an experienced and competent operator. On completion of formal training, students at their workplace must log hours and tasks performed at work and this must all be signed off by their employer or a representative from that employer whom holds the relevant OHS licence. If assessment only is to be undertaken, a completed student record book (logbook) is required along with a letter from the employer validating the log. (Assessment only is held on Fridays only and you will need to book)

RECOGNITION OF PRIOR LEARNING (RPL) APPLICATIONS:

RPL is available through MAJOR. If you wish to undertake the RPL process a fee will be charged in addition to the assessment cost. Suitable evidence of previous qualifications will be required along with supporting verification. All evidence must be collected and deemed suitable in order for RPL application to be successful .Please note that the Formal Training is Mandatory and will need to be completed even with RPL.

LEARNING KIT:

MAJOR has a self-paced learning kit which can help students gain theoretical knowledge before commencing training course. The pack includes a workbook and VET machinery manual. If contents of pack are returned in full - $25 will be deducted from course cost.

Course Outcomes for Basic Rigging:

This course is based on the role/responsibility of the Basic Rigger which encompass all areas of dogging, with the extra responsibility of conducting more advanced safety apparatus construction such as the erection of steel structures. Examples of Elements that will be covered are:
 
•    Inspection of Equipment
•    Preparing Rigging Equipment
•    Bends and Hitches
•    Use of a safety Harness
•    Plan and prepare for work
•    Identify Hazards and perform Hazard control measures
 
Course Outcomes for Intermediate Rigging:

This course is based on the role/responsibility of the Intermediate Rigger which encompass all areas of dogging and Basic Rigging, with the extra responsibility of conducting more advanced safety apparatus construction such as the Rigging of Cranes and the erection of Tilt panels.

Course Outcomes for Advanced Rigging:

This course is based on the role/responsibility of the Advanced Rigger which encompass all areas of dogging and Basic and Intermediate Rigging, with the extra responsibility of conducting more advanced safety apparatus construction such as The Rigging of a Span Rope, Derrik or gin pole or the installation of a swinging stage.

COURSE DATES & TIMES:

Courses are available Monthly and go for approximately TWO WEEKS. Times are from 6.00am to 3.00pm each day. Assessments are held monthly on Friday’s, (Course requires groups of 5-6 students and course dates are dependant on numbers, check for dates)

COURSE REQUIREMENTS:

A Person seeking a Rigging Licence must undergo Training and Assessment for the lower level Rigging classes and the Dogging class if licenses for the classes are not already held. Participants in the Rigging courses should have some experience and knowledge of working safely at heights.
Advanced Rigging is only available to existing workers so applicants will need to call our sales team for a quote.

  • Be able to read and write Basic English (Workplace Health & Safety Requirement).
  • Minimum of 18 years of age (Workplace Health & Safety Requirement).
  • Provide two forms of identification.
  • Current drivers license
  • Please arrive in suitable Work-clothes, Work-boots (Preferably steel Capped) and hat
