Training & Assessment Options
Formal & Information Training & Assessment
You will complete all training, formal and informal (practical), onsite at Major’s simulated worksite to a suitable competency level. No employer involvement is required.
Formal Training Only
This course is designed for those students whom wish to complete the mandatory informal training on the job or at their current employment. Employer’s must agree to this and fill in all relevant areas of student’s record book (logbook). Students are required to complete a competency-based 2 day formal training course that covers areas such as OHS legislative requirements, video presentations and verbal/practical demonstration and instruction of all elements from the training/assessment instrument. This also includes the written exam on completion of formal training.
Assessment Only (Employer-based Training)
You must have completed the formal training component with Major or another Registered Training Organisation and be an experienced and competent operator to undertake Assessment Only.
On completion of formal training, students must undertake on-the-job training under the supervision of a licensed operator, who possesses a current relevant OH&S licence. Hours must be logged, and training tasks performed at work and signed-off by the employer. Once the student has an acceptable skill level and knowledge base, as approved by the employer, a final skills assessment will be conducted. Assessment consists of a closed book theory component (completed during formal training) as well as a comprehensive practical test. The completed student record book (logbook) is required along with a letter from the employer validating the log.
Experienced Operator
This program is designed for students with prior excavator experience, who do not possess formal qualifications. The course takes approximately three (3) days, and evidence of previous experience is required, such as old log books, training plans, and interstate or international licences.
Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL)
The RPL process recognises prior training or experience that is relevant to the course, and provides the student with credit towards course components. To apply for RPL, suitable evidence of previous qualifications or licences must be provided, in addition to supporting documentation such as letters from employers, course outlines of completed training courses and more. All evidence must be provided to Major for review. A RPL processing fee will be charged.
