What is a confined space?
A ‘confined space’ is an enclosed or partially enclosed space which is at atmospheric pressure during occupancy and not intended primarily as a place of work.
Examples of confined spaces include:
• storage tanks, tank cars, process/ pressure vessels, boilers, other tank-like compartments;
• pits, degreasers, pipes, sewers, sewer pump stations including wet and dry wells, shafts and ducts.
However, many other types of structures may also meet the definition of a confined space.
PROGRAM:
Confined Space training is intended to provide participants with the information and training required to work safely in confined spaces and to meet legal requirements.
- Specific Tasks with Confined Spaces
- Identifying Confined Spaces, Lock out, Tag out procedures,
- List the relevant Legislation
- Identify Hazards and Causes of Hazards in Confined Spaces
- Complete Entry Permits and Monitor Atmospheric Conditions
- Confined Space Risk Assessment
- Use of Emergency Response and Equipment (PPE)
- Confined Space Entry
NOTE:
This course requires first aid as a prerequisite. Please confirm validity before booking on course.
WHO SHOULD ATTEND:
Electrical engineers, safety inspectors, safety personnel, injury prevention personnel, maintenance personnel, emergency services personnel (fire, ambulance, police), OHS officers, risk managers, mine managers, telecommunications and cable installation personnel, lift operators and installers, and people involved in the transport industry.
CERTIFICATION: This is accredited training. Successful participants will receive a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment. MAJOR recommends that persons who attend initial training in confined space entry should undertake refresher training every 18 months
COURSE DURATION, DATES & TIMES:
Arrive 7.00am for 7.30 start. Finish approx. 4.00pm.
Courses run - on a monthly basis subject to numebrs. Course can also be conducted onsite providing suitable facilities. Course numbers an be from 4 to 12. While every effort will be made to provide courses as scheduled; where insufficient bookings occur we reserve the right to offer a rescheduling of a course.

COURSE REQUIREMENTS
- Be able to read and write Basic English (Workplace Health & Safety Requirement).
- Minimum of 18 years of age (Workplace Health & Safety Requirement).
- Provide two forms of identification.
- Wear steel cap safety boots or work boots each day of the course.
