Company History
In 1987, Alex Tenkate, then the principal and Managing Director of Major Plant Hire began this new business. Alex Tenkate has a wealth of experience in the earthmoving industry as well as years in the transport and trucking industry having sold his transport business, Major Haulage in 1998 to Team Transport after 10 successful years serving the industry.
Several of the projects he has been involved with over the past 30 years include:
* Gateway Arterial Motorway (1985 - Bald Hills to Nudgee)
* Port of Brisbane
* Pioneer Concrete (Prime Contractors)
* Tarong Power Station
* Hire of excavators and earthmoving equipment to the Caloundra,
Brisbane and Gold Coast City Councils.
However, due to the increased economy, the building boom in South East Queensland, and the introduction of Workplace Health and Safety requirements, Alex recognised the need for properly skilled and trained people. Hence in 1998 Alex gained his "Registered Training Organisation" (RTO) status and the Major Operator and Driver Training Service opened for business.
Major Training appointed a General Manager in July 2007 to give it corporate status, offer excellent customer service and make its training its core business. Major has grown from employing 5 staff to now employing in excess of 60 permanent / casual staff with additional contractor trainers & assessors to help serve as a one stop shop for the general public, employers and job providers. Together, this has assisted Major in becoming one of Queensland's largest RTOs specializing in training for the Transport, Logistics, Construction & Mining industries
Based in Queensland, we have strategically positioned our Head Office and training site at Yatala and in pass few years have added additional simulated training sites at Caboolture in January 2008 and Ipswich in January 2009. We also have staff based on the eastern sea board to service industry along the coast.
All courses at Major Operator and Driver Training Services are structured to give each person, with the designated period of the course, the practical experience they require to be ticketed.
The guidelines for assessment comply with the standards set by Workplace Health and Safety and National Occupational Health and Safety Competency Standards for the operation of "Loadshifting Equipment" and other types of specified equipment.
